When a popular favorite is getting plus money on the run line, it always catches my eye. It signals the books are comfortable taking action on the “favorite” side — in this case, the Pirates.
Pittsburgh looks like it’s hit a wall, having dropped four straight. Ashcraft has struggled on the mound for the Pirates, carrying a 6.04 ERA over his last nine starts.
On the other side, Abbott has pitched well for Cincinnati, and the Reds bullpen has been strong behind him lately. Weather could also be a factor tonight, and if this game goes deep into the bullpens, I trust Cincinnati’s relief corps more.
All signs point to value on the Reds.
