Sam Houston State has a new offensive system under new head coach Phil Longo. Sam Houston State was very run heavy last season but they will throw the football more and be more balanced while also preparing to speed up the tempo quite a bit. The Sam Houston State defense after being very good the last couple seasons is starting over from scratch with the Bearkats losing a lot of their top tacklers from last season on all three levels. Western Kentucky will have a very fast paced tempo on offense too and they bring in the QB Maverick McIvor and OC Rick Bowie from Abilene Christian. They put up massive numbers together at Abilene Christian at the FCS level and them arriving together at WKU should ensure continuity right away for the Hilltoppers on offense right from this first game against a Sam Houston State defense that is totally rebuilding entering the season. That being said, the Western Kentucky defense is retooling a bit and has more question marks entering this season as well. I expect both teams to produce enough points to send this game Over the total.
