NHL – FREE PLAY: Islanders (43) vs. Devils (44)

Two Metropolitan Division rivals square off on this beautiful Monday Funday as the New Jersey Devils host the New York Islanders. Two squads that have been nothing but good to me during this 24-9 NHL heater (73%), and I’m rolling right back with ‘em tonight.

The Islanders have failed to hit six total goals in only three of their 15 games this season – and one of those was Saturday night when they blanked the Rangers 5–0 at MSG. The Isles didn’t miss; the Rangers just never showed up. Overall, the Islanders have been old reliable for over bettors – averaging 3.33 goals for and 3.27 goals against per game. That’s as clear a recipe for an “over team” as it gets.

On the other side, the Devils enter this one averaging 3.4 goals per game (7th in the NHL) and have shown their own share of defensive leaks. If it’s confirmed that Jacob Markstrom gets the start, currently its expected, that only sweetens the pot for goals. He’s sitting at 4–2 with a 3.95 GAA and a .871 save percentage, which isn’t exactly striking fear into shooters. (Getting the wins while forcing his team to pocket a few is a good recipe for us to collect on this one)

Both teams rank inside the top 12 in goals scored or allowed in the first 10 minutes, so don’t be surprised if this one heats up in a hurry. A couple of quick strikes, and we could be cruising to the window early.

Two over-friendly teams, a prime-time divisional matchup, and plenty of offensive talent — yeah, I’m in.
