As of Sunday morning early, most of the general public are playing the favorite in this matchup. Well, my friends, I’ve made a very successful career going against the grain. And that is exactly what I’m doing here once again in the Steelers/Chargers matchup. With the Bills, Ravens, and Chiefs, looking a little more mortal this season, many out there feel the Chargers are the team that will come out of the AFC. They are a very good team, sitting in second-place and their division, at 6-3. There are three-zero in the division, and 5-1 in conference play. However, the NFL is a long season, and injuries play a huge part. One thing for sure, Los Angeles has been hit with the injury bug. Always do your due diligence and check the status of players just to make sure. But I will tell you there is a laundry list of significant injuries to this team. Meanwhile, very quietly, the Pittsburgh Steelers sit atop of their division, the AFC North, at 5-3 overall. They too are good against AFC opponents, going 4-1 against the conference this season. Both teams come off victories, and I will admit, this will be the Steelers longest road trip since playing the Vikings in Dublin, Ireland, in late-September. Chargers offensive lineman, Joe Alt went down in the second quarter of last week’s 27-20 victory on the road at the Titans. This team does not have the depth to fill that void. And the way the Steelers defense has looked, I think you will see the Los Angeles offense sputtering a bit here. I’m never in love with playing Pittsburgh away from the confines of Heinz Field, but they have a smart coach, a hungry team, and I feel they will step up big time here. Going back to the injury to Los Angeles offensive line, please remember that Justin Herbert has been sacked 28 times already this season. For all you trends fans out there, the Chargers are just 2-12 ATS when hosting teams from the AFC North. This is going to be a tight one, but I will take the Steelers plus the points. Thank you.
