UTSA has dominated this in-state rivalry series against North Texas going 4-0 in the last four meetings since 2022 and I do not see that changing here today. North Texas started out the season with promise on defense but the Mean Green have reverted back into the struggling defense getting gashed for big plays once again as their schedule has gotten more difficult. UTSA’s offense should do damage in this game with QB Owen McCown entering this game with the confidence from his best game of the season by far in last week’s 61-13 dismantling of Rice. North Texas gave up 63 points to South Florida last week and I expect them to struggle to get stops here. The North Texas offense with QB Drew Mestemaker has been good but the more he plays especially against better teams and defenses, we are seeing more mistakes and INT’s from him. That could spell trouble today against a UTSA defense that lost much of their production from last season and struggled early but the Roadrunners have gotten better on defense as the season has progressed. UTSA covered and cashed a ticket in their one and only previous game in the underdog role this season against Texas A&M and I expect more of the same here as they challenge for the outright win against North Texas here in Denton.
