It’s true, the Mariners had their way with the Tigers during the regular season. But the postseason is a whole different situation, and Detroit took Game 1 yesterday by a score of 3-2. On paper, these two teams are very similar, both at the plate and on the mound. And it is also true, Seattle is one of the better home teams in baseball. But Detroit isn’t so bad on the road, my friends. One key factor in this matchup is the fact the visitor now comes into Game 2 winning five of their last eight games, while the home team has now lost four straight. One more key factor I think is significant here is the starting pitchers. Skubal and Castillo are scheduled. The Detroit left-hander is 13-6 with a 2.21 ERA on the campaign, and owns a very nice road ERA of 2.21 this season. Over his last eight starts, he has allowed one earned run or less seven times. In five career starts against today’s opponent, he is 3-2 with a 3.77 ERA. However, the Mariners did beat him twice this regular season. As a matter of fact, Seattle starter, Castillo beat him head-to-head twice during this regular season. The Mariners right-hander is a respectable 11-8 with a 3.54 ERA during the regular season. Over his career, he is 2-4 against the Tigers, with a 3.95 ERA. He did finish the season strong, going 3-0 over his last four starts. I know he took down Skubal twice this season, and I know Seattle is playing at home. But I just feel Skubal shines here, while the team rides some momentum from the series opening win yesterday into today, and comes out here victorious. Take the Tigers. Thank you.
