The Oregon State Beavers have gotten off to a rough start this season with losses to California and Fresno State but if you look under the hood, you will find that Oregon State’s offense didn’t perform that terribly in either game. Last week in particular, Oregon State QB Maalik Murphy threw for 347 passing yards and 4 passing TD’s and the Beavers rushed for 140 yards on the ground while scoring 27 points. They had 528 total yards and should have scored more than 27 but 2 INT’s from Murphy kept the Beavers from putting more points on the board. The Oregon State defense has struggled against both the run and pass surrendering 6.2 yards per play this season and there is no doubt Texas Tech’s balanced offensive attack led by QB Behren Morton will be much tougher than facing Cal and Fresno. Texas Tech has 129 points in their first two games combined. Yes, it was against very weak competition Arkansas Pine-Bluff and Kent State but this offense should still have a great deal of success here. It’s the Texas Tech defense that I feel will face a more difficult challenge here because Kent State could be the one of the worst offensive teams in the nation this season which isn’t a great indicator of just how good this Red Raiders defense is. Oregon State still has some weapons on offense and an experienced QB in Maalik Murphy that can throw the football against the weaker area of the Texas Tech defense which is their secondary. These two teams are a combined 4-0 to the Over this season and Texas Tech is on a perfect 6-0 Over streak in their last six games dating back to last season. Expect more of the same here on Saturday.
