The Mean Green head east at 6–1, and this isn’t a tune-up — it’s an audition. UNT is very much in the conversation for an FBS playoff spot out of the Power 4, and because nothing is guaranteed, they’re treating every game like a chance to prove it. That mindset usually looks like one thing on the scoreboard: more points.
They’ve been piling up quick strikes on offense and, frankly, inviting shootouts by giving up points at a steady clip (25.7 points per game against). That combination — lightning-fast scoring and a defense that occasionally hands the game back to opponents — is exactly the recipe that makes the “over” appealing. Toss in the fact that this team has gone over in five of seven games, and the profile for another high-scoring affair is obvious. Averaging 45 a night is 1st in all of CFB currently.
Charlotte (1–6) hasn’t been pretty this season, but a home crowd and the comfort of familiar surroundings can get them moving early. I don’t see them shutting UNT down, but I do expect them to pick up enough offense to keep the game lively at least through the early stages. That’s all UNT needs — room to keep the accelerator down and keep piling on points.
Bottom line: UNT should keep pushing the pace, Charlotte should find a way to chip in on the scoreboard, and the conditions are right for a Friday-night over. Enjoy the fireworks.
