Jayden Daniels has returned after a two week absence. That gives the Commanders a chance.
I just don’t think that chance is big enough for Washington to pull the upset.
Yes, Daniels is back. But Washington still has other key injuries and their defense is just as bad as last season.
The Commanders are traveling cross-country to take on an aroused Chargers team that suffered its first loss in four games upset by the Giants last Sunday. That was a horrendous situation for the Chargers traveling cross country for an early start time after opening the season with victories against each of their AFC West Division foes.
Now the Chargers are back home and in an angry mood. They are a far more solid team than Washington without any major weaknesses although their two best offensive linemen, tackles Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt, are out.
I trust Jim Harbaugh to make the necessary adjustments. Justin Herbert is an elite quarterback with three good wide receivers, now that Quentin Johnston is having a breakout season, and running back Omarion Hampton, a rookie of the year candidate.
The Commanders rank last in team pass coverage, according to Pro Football Focus,
Daniel’s doesn’t have these kinds of weapons. Terry McLaurin is far and away Washington’s best receiver and he’s out with a quadriceps injury.
The Chargers rank in the top five defensively in fewest points, fewest passing yards and total yards.
