The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers are a program in freefall and the time is now to act and bet against this program in decline at every reasonable opportunity until the betting markets catch up with the current realities of where this team is at. Coastal Carolina’s offense is in shambles. The QB play is miserable, the offensive line has struggled to run block or pass protect and the team lacks playmakers. That combination has led to the Chanticleers averaging just 4.2 yards per play (131st in the country), 3.8 yards per rush (106th in the country) and 158 passing yards per game (117th in the country). MJ Morris was the starting QB but got benched against Charleston Southern and was replaced by Tad Hudson who hasn’t been any better. Hudson has a 48.9% completion rate and a 0-2 TD-INT ratio which is horrible. The overall QB rating for Coastal Carolina QB’s is 80.4 ranking them a dismal 135th in the country in QBR and none of the Chanticleers QB’s have thrown a passing TD yet this season in three games. The defense hasn’t been nearly as bad but we are seeing a pattern of the inept offense going 3 and out so often that it wears down the Coastal defense as the game goes on. They have scored just 20 points in three games this season. South Alabama has covered in B2B games against some very solid competition facing Tulane and Auburn and their QB Bishop Davenport appears to be getting better with each game and has a rock solid 73.4% completion rate with a 6-1 TD-INT ratio while facing a tough slate of opponents. The South Alabama defensive numbers are not great but they are skewed by some tougher opposing offenses. This will prove to be a massive step down in class facing a bottom tier Coastal Carolina offense. Coastal Carolina is 0-3 ATS this season losing to the spread by a combined 73.5 points in those games which speaks volumes about how far behind the betting markets are right now in regards to pricing this team correctly. Coastal Carolina is worth a bet against at every opportunity including here.
Pick: South Alabama -15.5 -110
