Featured Game: Vanderbilt Commodores vs. Virginia Tech Hokies (-1, 47.5)
Time: 4:30 pm ET
Television: ACC Network/ESPN+
This spread has moved considerably this week. Virginia Tech opened the week as a three-point favorite in their home opener, but the spread is now down to just one point.
It’s easy to see why. While Vanderbilt handled Charleston Southern 45-3 last time out, the Hokies opened 2025 with a 24-11 loss against South Carolina on neutral turf. The Gamecocks aren’t bad, but Virginia Tech looked lost offensively, completing just 15 of 35 passes and rushing for 3.1 yards per carry.
Vanderbilt’s Diego Pavia, meanwhile, looked sharp last week, throwing for 275 yards and three touchdowns against an overmatched opponent. Defensively, the Commodores yielded just 135 total yards and forced two turnovers. No, they didn’t beat a blueblood, but they did just about everything a fair-minded observer could want to see.
It wouldn’t be unprecedented for home-field advantage to wake Virginia Tech up, but I think they’ll need more than that on Saturday. Vanderbilt feels like a team on the rise, while Virginia Tech’s lackluster 2025 debut doesn’t inspire confidence. I’ll take the Commodores to pull off the mild upset.
Prediction: Vanderbilt +1.
